Olaria — Support
Welcome. If something in Olaria isn't working, or you're not sure how a feature is meant to behave, this page is for you.
Contact us
The fastest way to reach us is by email:
Write in any language you're comfortable in; English gets the quickest reply. Please include the phone you're using (e.g., iPhone 13), what you were doing when the problem happened, and a screenshot, if you can. Those three things usually cut the back-and-forth in half.
We're a small team in Johannesburg, and we read everything. You can expect a reply within 3 business days, usually sooner.
Common questions
How do the three buckets work? Every expense in Olaria lives in one of three buckets: Survival (the non-negotiables — rent, groceries, transport), Frictionless (lifestyle conveniences, subscriptions, gym, deliveries) and Emotional (feeling-driven purchases, kept small on purpose). By default, your income is split 85 / 10 / 5 across them, and you can change that split in Settings. Tap the small "i" next to any bucket's name in the app for a reminder of what belongs where.
Why did my recurring items appear in the new month by themselves? That's intentional. Items you mark as "recurring" automatically copy into each new month, with the budgeted amount carried over and the spent amount reset to zero. If you don't want an item to carry over anymore, open it and switch off "Recurring."
How does the net worth section work? Net worth is tracked quarterly. Each quarter you record what you own and what you owe; the app draws the curve as your record grows. When a new quarter starts, your entries carry over automatically from the previous quarter; just adjust the amounts that changed.
What is "Analyse my spending"? An optional feature that sends a summary of your month's figures to Claude, an AI assistant, which writes a short, honest read of how your month is going. It only runs when you tap it. See our Privacy Policy for exactly what is shared.
I forgot my password. Use the reset option on the sign-in screen. If you get stuck, email us from the address you registered with, and we'll help.
How do I get my data out of the app? Settings → "Export this month as PDF" creates a summary document on your device. For a full copy of your data, email us, and we'll provide one.
How much does Olaria cost? Olaria starts with a 7-day free trial of the full app, nothing held back. After the trial, Olaria costs R49 per month (or the equivalent in your local currency, as priced by Apple). The subscription is billed through your Apple account, renews automatically, and can be cancelled anytime in your device's Settings → your name → Subscriptions; cancelling during the trial means you pay nothing. Purchases and refunds are handled by Apple under Apple's standard terms.
Feature requests
Olaria grows slowly and deliberately, and many of its features started as user suggestions. If something would make the app serve you better, email us with "Feature request" in the subject line. We can't build everything, but we genuinely read everything.
The fine print
Olaria provides tools for organising your own financial information. It does not provide financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and nothing in the app should be taken as such. For advice about your specific situation, speak to a qualified professional.
